BTS member Jimin has seven tattoos that photos and media reports confirm: "NEVERMIND" on his right ribs, "13" on his left wrist, "Young" and "Forever" above his elbows, "Youth" behind his left ear, moon phases down his back, and the "7" friendship tattoo on his left index finger. Here is where each one is, when fans first spotted it, and what Jimin himself has said about it.

Key points

  • Seven known tattoos, most of them small words and numbers
  • The "7" on his index finger is the friendship tattoo all seven BTS members got in 2022. Jimin confirmed it on Weverse
  • He added the moon phases on his back after V showed him a piece of fan art
  • 13 is known as a number he likes. It appears in both his birthday (October 13) and BTS's debut date (June 13, 2013)
  • "NEVERMIND" was body paint on a 2014 awards show stage. In November 2018 the same word was seen on stage again, and fans wondered if it was now a real tattoo

Jimin's Tattoos and What They Mean

"NEVERMIND" on His Right Ribs

The word "NEVERMIND" runs along his right ribs. (Source: Koreaboo, November 6, 2023)

It started as stage makeup. At the MAMA awards on December 3, 2014, during BTS's stage with Block B, "Nevermind" was written on Jimin's body as part of the performance. Fans then spotted the same word on him at a show on November 6, 2018 and again in Nagoya in January 2019, which is when people started asking whether it was now real. (Source: Elite Daily, January 14, 2019)

The word matches "Intro: Never Mind," the opening track of BTS's November 2015 EP The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 2, co-written by SUGA. The tattoo is widely read as a nod to that song. (Sources: Wikipedia; Elite Daily) We found no record of Jimin explaining it himself.

"13" on His Left Wrist

The number "13" sits on the inside of his left wrist. Fans have known about it since around 2020. (Source: Harper's BAZAAR Japan, March 14, 2022 (Japanese))

This is one Jimin has talked about. In a January 2022 making-of video for BTS's official merchandise, he chose "13" as the text for the drawstring of the hoodie he designed and showed the 13 on his left wrist. He laughed that the other members teased him a lot about it, asking whether he got it as a stamp at a race, whether he had come in 13th, or whether it was a reward for doing 13 push-ups. 13 is known as a number Jimin likes. It is in his birthday, October 13, and in BTS's debut date, June 13, 2013. (Source: Money Today, January 18, 2022 (Korean))

"Young" and "Forever" Above His Elbows

Reports based on photos place "YOUNG" just above his left elbow and "FOREVER" just above his right, on the back of each arm. Side by side, they read "Young Forever." (Source: Koreaboo, November 6, 2023)

At a music show on February 27, 2020, fans noticed what looked like bandages above both of his elbows. The words came into view during a livestream later that year. (Source: Elite Daily)

"Young Forever" is also the name of BTS's May 2016 album The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever and of its track "Epilogue: Young Forever," and the tattoos are generally seen as a reference to that song. (Sources: Wikipedia; Elite Daily)

"Youth" Behind His Left Ear

The tattoo behind his left ear is the word "Youth." (Source: Koreaboo, November 6, 2023)

Fans first noticed it at BTS's Permission to Dance on Stage concert in Seoul on March 10, 2022, along with a new crescent moon on the nape of his neck. Because his hair covers that spot, the writing was hard to read at first. (Source: Harper's BAZAAR Japan, March 14, 2022 (Japanese))

Like "Young Forever," it is a word about being young. Jimin has not said what it means to him, as far as we could find.

The "7" Friendship Tattoo on His Index Finger

A small "7" is tattooed on his left index finger. It is the BTS friendship tattoo: each of the seven members has a 7 somewhere on their body. (Sources: Model Press, June 17, 2022 (Japanese); Munhwa Ilbo, June 30, 2022 (Korean))

Fans spotted it on June 16, 2022, when a close-up on M Countdown showed his hand on the mic. On June 29, Jimin posted a photo on the fan platform Weverse and explained that it was a friendship tattoo the members got together. He added that he had wanted to show it off while holding the mic, but because his hands are small, it can't be seen when he grips the mic. (Source: Jimin's Weverse post (Korean))

The friendship tattoos were done by tattoo artist POLYC, who posted about the project on November 12, 2022 in a post that opens "Thanks to BTS JIMIN!" See the post on Instagram (@polyc_sj)

The other members chose other spots, such as behind the ear for Jungkook (officially styled Jung Kook) and the ankle for RM. (Source: VOGUE KOREA (Korean)) Our BTS friendship tattoo guide covers where each member has theirs.

Moon Phases on His Back

It began as a single crescent moon on his nape, which fans first noticed at the Seoul concert on March 10, 2022. (Source: Harper's BAZAAR Japan (Japanese))

During a Weverse livestream on September 18, 2022, Jimin explained what happened next. V (Kim Taehyung) showed him a piece of fan art with four more phases of the moon, Jimin thought it was beautifully drawn, and he had the tattoo done to match. He said he started with one moon and now has five down his back, but had no photo of it to show fans yet. (Source: The Diarist, September 19, 2022, citing a fan translation of the livestream)

Moon phase tattoos running down Jimin's spine

The full design became easy to see in 2023: it appears in the photo book that came with FACE in March, and in a video he posted to Instagram on April 6. (Source: Model Press, April 6, 2023 (Japanese))

Moon phases are often chosen to stand for change, growth and cycles. Jimin's own reason was simpler: he loved the fan art.

Which Other BTS Members Have Tattoos?

All seven members have the "7" friendship tattoo. Beyond that, the member best known for his tattoos is Jungkook.

The friendship 7 stands for the number of members. Each member chose his own spot, and most of them came to light around June 2022. (Sources: ELLE Korea (Korean); VOGUE KOREA (Korean)) POLYC wrote that the design will never be sold and won't be tattooed on anyone outside the group.

FAQ About Jimin's Tattoos

How many tattoos does Jimin have?

Seven that can be confirmed as of October 2026: "NEVERMIND" on his right ribs, "13" on his left wrist, "Young" and "Forever" above his elbows, "Youth" behind his left ear, the moon phases on his back, and the "7" on his left index finger. He may have others that clothing hides.

What is Jimin's tattoo behind his ear?

It is the word "Youth," behind his left ear. Fans first noticed it in March 2022. His hair usually covers it.

What does Jimin's moon tattoo mean?

Jimin hasn't given it a symbolic meaning. He said it grew from one moon to five because V showed him fan art of the moon phases and he loved it.

When did BTS get their 7 tattoos?

In 2022. The members' 7s came to light one after another around June 2022, and Jimin confirmed his in a Weverse post on June 29, 2022.

Does Jimin hide his tattoos?

Not as a rule. They often show on stage, in photo books and on his Instagram. In February 2020 he appeared on a music show with what looked like bandages above his elbows, and he has said the 7 on his finger doesn't show when he holds the mic because his hands are small.

The Bottom Line

Jimin's seven tattoos are mostly small words and numbers: NEVERMIND, 13, Young, Forever, Youth and 7. The one exception is the line of moons down his back. He has talked about three of them himself: 13 is a number he likes, 7 is the friendship tattoo he shares with BTS, and the moons came from fan art V showed him.
