Per the official guide, male guests who are Japanese or live in Japan cannot enter with tattoos or body art of any size, even with stickers. Male foreign tourists may bathe after showing a passport or air ticket and wearing one designated tattoo sticker (330 yen; it may not cover everything), but not if they entered Japan 90 or more days ago or cannot show proof. Women of any nationality are allowed with fashion tattoos on a trial basis, and need one sticker only if a single tattoo exceeds 30 cm × 30 cm. (Checked on November 4, 2026.)
