Every member of the Phantom Troupe (幻影旅団, Genei Ryodan) in HUNTER×HUNTER carries a twelve-legged spider tattoo with their member number inside it. The manga, though, has only ever shown where three of them are: Uvogin's on his back, Shizuku's on her lower left side, and Hisoka's fake one on his back. Below is every member's number and tattoo location, with the manga volumes where each detail appears.

Key points

  • The tattoo is a twelve-legged spider with the member's number (0–12) on its abdomen
  • No. 0 is the leader, Chrollo. Nos. 1–12 are the spider's twelve "legs"
  • The manga shows only Uvogin's (back), Shizuku's (lower left side) and Hisoka's fake (back)
  • Chrollo's, Feitan's, Machi's and most other members' locations are still unrevealed

What the Spider Tattoo Means

The Troupe's symbol is a spider with twelve legs. The leader is the spider's head and the twelve members are its legs, and every member has this spider tattooed somewhere on their body. (Volume 12)

The leader's orders come first, but the survival of the Spider as a whole outranks the leader's own life. If the head dies, someone else takes over as head. (Volume 12)

What the Numbers Mean

The number on the spider's abdomen is the member's number. No. 0 is the leader, and Nos. 1–12 are the legs.

When a member leaves or dies, the newcomer takes over that number. Kalluto took No. 4 after Hisoka left, and Illumi took No. 11 after Uvogin died.

The series never explains how the numbers are assigned. They are not in order of joining, though: Uvogin, a founding member, is No. 11, while Bonolenov, who joined later, is No. 10.

How to Spot a Fake

In Volume 3, during the Hunter Exam, a prisoner named Majtani shows off a spider tattoo on his right shoulder and claims to be a Troupe member. Kurapika points out that a real member's tattoo has a number inside the spider, and exposes him as a fake. (Volume 3)

Every Phantom Troupe Member's Tattoo Number and Location

Here is what the series shows for each member. Where the location has never been shown, we say so rather than guess.

Chrollo Lucilfer (No. 0)

Chrollo Lucilfer with the cross tattoo on his forehead

Chrollo founded the Troupe and leads it as No. 0. His Nen ability, Skill Hunter, lets him steal other people's abilities and use them himself.

The manga has not revealed where his spider is. The 1999 anime shows a spider without a number on his right arm in episode 62, but the same scene in the manga (Volume 11) shows no tattoo, and the 2011 anime keeps his arm covered by his sleeve. (Source: Hunterpedia, "Chrollo Lucilfer")

The tattoo most people picture when they think of Chrollo is the cross on his forehead. When he approaches Neon, he hides it under bandages. You can find similar designs among our cross tattoo designs.

Nobunaga Hazama (No. 1)

Nobunaga Hazama in tears

Nobunaga is No. 1, a sword-wielding founding member.

His tattoo location has not been revealed.

In the Yorknew City arc, he weeps over Uvogin's death. (Source: Japanese Wikipedia, "幻影旅団")

Feitan Portor (No. 2)

Feitan Portor with his mouth covered by a cloth with a skull emblem

Feitan is No. 2 and the Troupe's interrogator. His ability, Pain Packer, turns the pain he has taken into an attack on his enemy.

Where is Feitan's tattoo? It has not been revealed.

Machi Komacine (No. 3)

Machi Komacine with her pink hair tied back

Machi is No. 3. She turns her aura into thread, and in Volume 7 she stitches Hisoka's severed arms back on after his match at Heavens Arena. (Volume 7)

Her tattoo location has not been revealed.

Hisoka and Kalluto (No. 4)

No. 4 originally belonged to Hisoka, who took the place of the previous No. 4. He was never a true member, and the spider in the middle of his back was a fake made with his ability Texture Surprise. (Volumes 7 and 13; 2011 anime episode 32)

After Hisoka left, Kalluto, the youngest of the Zoldyck siblings, took over No. 4. He joined to get his brother back. His tattoo location has not been revealed. (Volumes 17 and 22)

The 2013 film "Hunter × Hunter: Phantom Rouge" adds Omokage, Hisoka's predecessor as No. 4, whose spider is on his right palm. He appears only in the film, not in the manga. (Source: Hunterpedia, "Omokage")

Phinks, Shalnark and Franklin (Nos. 5–7)

  • Phinks Magcub (No. 5): his Ripper Cyclotron makes his punch stronger the more he rotates his arm. Tattoo location not revealed
  • Shalnark (No. 6): his Black Voice controls anyone he sticks with an antenna. Killed by Hisoka in Volume 34 without his tattoo ever being shown
  • Franklin Bordeau (No. 7): his Double Machine Gun fires Nen bullets from his fingertips. Tattoo location not revealed

Shizuku Murasaki (No. 8)

Shizuku is No. 8. She fights with Blinky, a vacuum cleaner made of Nen, and took over from the previous No. 8.

Her tattoo is on the lower left side of her midsection, shown during the fight with the Chimera Ants in Volume 22. (Volume 22; 2011 anime episode 97) See side tattoo designs for placements like hers.

Pakunoda and Bonolenov (Nos. 9–10)

  • Pakunoda (No. 9): reads the memories of anyone she touches and passes them to her comrades with Memory Bomb. She died at the end of the Yorknew City arc without her tattoo being shown
  • Bonolenov Ndongo (No. 10): plays music through the holes in his body to fight with Battle Cantabile. Tattoo location not revealed

Uvogin and Illumi (No. 11)

Uvogin is No. 11, an Enhancer of enormous strength whose signature move is Big Bang Impact.

His tattoo is on his back, shown in his fight with the Shadow Beasts in Volume 9. (Volume 9) See back tattoo designs if you like that placement.

Kurapika kills Uvogin in the Yorknew City arc. No. 11 then goes to Illumi, the eldest Zoldyck son, who appears as the Troupe's newest member in Volume 36. Illumi's tattoo location has not been revealed. (Volume 36)

Kortopi (No. 12)

Kortopi is No. 12. His Gallery Fake makes copies of anything he touches. Hisoka kills him in Volume 34, and his tattoo is never shown. (Volume 34)

Getting a Phantom Troupe Spider Tattoo

If you want your spider in a canon spot, the manga gives you two: the back (Uvogin and Hisoka) and the lower left side (Shizuku).

What makes it a Troupe spider rather than any spider is the number on its abdomen. In the story, the missing number is exactly how Kurapika spots a fake.

Phantom Troupe Tattoo FAQ

Where is Chrollo's spider tattoo?

The manga hasn't revealed it. The 1999 anime shows a spider without a number on his right arm in one scene, but the manga's version of that scene shows no tattoo. The cross on his forehead is a separate tattoo.

Where is Feitan's tattoo?

It hasn't been revealed as of October 2026. All we know is that his spider carries the number 2.

Which Phantom Troupe tattoos have been shown?

Tattoo locations shown so far

・Uvogin (No. 11): back (Volume 9)

・Shizuku (No. 8): lower left side (Volume 22)

・Omokage (former No. 4, film only): right palm

Every other member also has a numbered spider somewhere, but the series hasn't shown where.

Are the Phantom Troupe numbers based on when members joined?

No. Uvogin, a founding member, is No. 11, while Bonolenov, who joined later, is No. 10. The series never explains how the numbers are given out.

How many members does the Phantom Troupe have now?

Ten as of Volume 36: Nos. 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 11. Nos. 6, 9 and 12 are empty after the deaths of Shalnark, Pakunoda and Kortopi.

Are there official Phantom Troupe tattoo stickers?

We couldn't find any official Phantom Troupe temporary tattoos as of October 2026. If you want to test a design and size before getting the real thing, a studio can help you work that out at a consultation.

The tattoo cover stickers on this page are skin-colored concealers for hiding an existing tattoo. They are not spider-design stickers.
