A tattoo is for life, so it pays to choose carefully. Three things matter most: the artist's portfolio, the studio's hygiene and booking rules, and whether it specializes in the style you want.
Look at the Artist's Portfolio
Browse the studio's website and Instagram for work in the style you want. Look for clean, even lines and solid color, and check whether they post healed photos, not just fresh ones.

Tennoji Horiharu's hourly rate is for large Japanese pieces, and its site doesn't list a price for small tattoos. At NEEDLING TATTOO and Shadow Ink Tattoo, the hourly rate is higher with some artists.
Tennoji Horiharu
Tennoji Horiharu is a studio for traditional Japanese tattooing, done partly by hand, a five-minute walk from Tennoji Station. The artist, Horiharu, apprenticed under Horitoshi I in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, and has been back in their hometown of Osaka, working in Tennoji, since 2007. NEEDLING TATTOO

BARON TATTOO

JP STYLE INK
