Saitama, the prefecture just north of Tokyo, has tattoo studios from Omiya Station to quiet towns in the north. Here are eight whose websites or Instagram accounts we checked for recent updates in October 2026, with their styles, starting prices, deposit and age rules, and whether they take walk-ins.

Key points

  • All eight studios' official websites or Instagram accounts showed recent updates in October 2026 (2CROW's Instagram was last updated in February 2025, so confirm it's open before booking)
  • In Omiya: D-arts Dominion Art Studio, a 5-minute walk from the station's east exit, also takes same-day bookings
  • Female artists: DEFY ART COLLECTIVE (Kawagoe), Art Studio LIEN (Fukaya) and Black Moon Tattoo (Kumagaya)
  • Lowest starting prices: KICKING GALLERY from ¥5,000 and Tattoo Base T.R.A.P. from ¥6,000. SHISA INK's website and Instagram list its prices differently
  • Saitama law bans tattooing anyone under 18, and five of the eight studios set their minimum age at 19 or 20

How to Choose a Tattoo Studio in Saitama

Saitama is a large prefecture. Some studios are a short walk from a station in Omiya or Kawagoe; others, in Fukaya or Kumagaya, are easier to reach by taxi, bus or car. Look at the artist's work and the studio's booking rules, and check how you'll get there before you book.

Look at the Artist's Portfolio

Browse the studio's website and Instagram for work in the style you want. Look for clean, even lines and solid color, and check whether they post healed photos, not just fresh ones.

For traditional Japanese work, 2CROW Tattoo Studio has focused on it since 1998, and DEFY ART COLLECTIVE has a dedicated Japanese-style artist, Horirin. For tribal, dotwork and geometric blackwork, try Black Moon Tattoo, which specializes in it. D-arts Dominion, KICKING GALLERY and Art Studio LIEN all say they take on cover-ups and finishing unfinished pieces.

You can collect reference images on Tattoo Japan, for example Japanese traditional designs, one-point designs and cover-up designs.

Check Deposits, Cancellations and Age Rules

Most studios here take a deposit when you book, and several keep it, or charge a fee, if you cancel or change the date. Here is what each one lists:

Needles, ink and tips are single-use, and some equipment, such as grips, is sterilized in an autoclave. The studio only tattoos people aged 20 and over, and charges 50% of the planned fee for a no-show. (Source: studio information, in Japanese)

(Source: 2CROW Tattoo Studio official site, in Japanese)

Its online gallery is split into Japanese work (dragons, koi, tigers, hannya masks, Kannon), black and grey (skulls, the Virgin Mary) and other styles such as tribal and lettering. You can bring your own design or have one drawn for you.

Questions and bookings go through LINE or email, and you need to book a meeting in advance to discuss a design. There's a cancellation fee if you cancel a booking.

Needles, ink, ink caps and gloves are single-use, and other equipment is steam-sterilized in an autoclave. Nobody under 20 may enter the studio or be tattooed.

The studio also warns that some studio directories still show its old details and prices, and asks you to check its own website for current information.

SHISA INK (Kawagoe)

SHISA INK is a three-minute walk from Kasumigaseki Station on the Tobu Tojo Line. This Kasumigaseki is in Kawagoe, not the station of the same name in central Tokyo. The website says the studio takes on all styles, from delicate pieces to full traditional Japanese work. (Sources: SHISA INK official site, in Japanese; SHISA INK on Instagram)

The website lists two artists: Shibuya, who isn't taking new bookings, and Horiman, who does Western styles and tribal and takes enquiries by Instagram DM.

The website's price list starts at ¥5,000 for a coin-size piece, ¥20,000 for business-card size and ¥35,000 for postcard size, all before tax. The Instagram profile instead lists ¥6,000 per hour, with one-point pieces also charged by the hour. Neither is dated, so confirm the price in your quote.

The two also differ on same-day tattoos. The website says the studio can tattoo you the same day if there's an opening, while the Instagram profile (checked in October 2026) says it doesn't accept same-day bookings. Neither is dated, so ask by DM before you go.

To book, you need photo ID and an ¥11,000 deposit (tax included), and you must be at least 19. If you cancel or change the date, the deposit is kept as a cancellation fee. If you live far away, you can plan the design by email or DM. (Source: studio information, in Japanese)

It calls itself a walk-in studio, and its website and Instagram say the tattooing booths are fully private, so women can feel at ease. (Source: Tattoo Base T.R.A.P. official site, in Japanese)

All enquiries and bookings, including for the pre-tattoo consultation, go through the studio's official LINE account; it doesn't take them by phone or social media DM. Before you're tattooed, you meet to confirm the design and get a quote. The studio says it doesn't charge for quotes, design or consultations, and won't add anything not in the quote, such as needle or design fees. (Source: price page, in Japanese)

The studio blog shows its one-point, lettering, black and grey, Japanese and cover-up work, and in October 2026 it was posting new pieces every other day.

Black Moon Tattoo (Kumagaya)

Black Moon Tattoo, in the Ishihara area of Kumagaya, makes custom tattoos centered on blackwork such as tribal and geometric designs. Its website is in both Japanese and English. (Source: Black Moon Tattoo official site)

There are two artists. In the studio's words, Chisaki "started her tattoo career in Japan in 2000", guest-worked and joined conventions around the world, then worked for eight years as a regular artist at The Family Business Tattoo in London before opening Black Moon Tattoo in Kumagaya in 2020. She creates black work inspired by traditional tribal styles such as Polynesian, Moko, Samoan and Borneo, and also does geometric work. (Source: Chisaki's page)

Tomas Tomas 108 started tattooing in Manchester, UK, in the mid-1990s and spent more than 15 years in Alex Binnie's team at IN2U Tattoo in London. The site describes him as a pioneer of dotwork and complex geometric tattooing. (Source: Tomas Tomas 108's page)

Frequently Asked Questions About Tattoo Studios in Saitama

Can tourists get a tattoo in Saitama?

Yes. Tattooing is legal in Japan: in 2020, Japan's Supreme Court ruled that tattooing by an artist who is not a doctor does not count as medical practice under the Medical Practitioners' Act. (Source: Supreme Court of Japan, 2020, in Japanese) Of the studios here, D-arts Dominion says it can be contacted in English, and Black Moon Tattoo has an English website. Bring your passport, since many studios check your age with photo ID.

How old do you have to be to get a tattoo in Saitama?

Generally 18 or older. Saitama Prefecture's youth protection ordinance (Seishonen Kenzen Ikusei Jorei) bans tattooing anyone under 18 without a legitimate reason, with a fine of up to ¥500,000. (Source: Saitama Prefecture ordinance, Articles 3, 19-2 and 28-4, in Japanese) Some studios set a higher age: 2CROW and D-arts Dominion only tattoo people aged 20 and over, and DEFY ART COLLECTIVE, SHISA INK and Art Studio LIEN require you to be at least 19.

Can I walk in without an appointment?

D-arts Dominion in Omiya takes same-day bookings, and DEFY ART COLLECTIVE and KICKING GALLERY say same-day tattoos are possible depending on the design and schedule. Art Studio LIEN is appointment-only. SHISA INK's website says same-day is possible if there's an opening, but its Instagram says it doesn't take same-day bookings. Wherever you go, call or message first.

How much does a small tattoo cost in Saitama?

Among these eight studios, the smallest pieces start at ¥5,000 at KICKING GALLERY and ¥6,000 at Tattoo Base T.R.A.P. D-arts Dominion, DEFY ART COLLECTIVE and Art Studio LIEN start at ¥10,000–11,000. Prices depend on the design and size, so ask for a quote first.

Can I go to an onsen in Saitama with a tattoo?

Rules differ from bath to bath in Japan: some accept tattoos, some ask you to cover them, and some don't allow them at all. You can find places that accept tattoos on Tattoo Japan. With a fresh tattoo, follow your artist's aftercare instructions before soaking in any bath.
